While the NHTSA points to reckless behavior on the part of drivers as one of the most common causes of rollover accidents, automobile manufacturers also bear some responsibility. Consumer Reports advises that there have been numerous recalls over the years due to larger vehicles which were known to become unbalanced, increasing rollover risks. One of the main problems is that there are a lack of safety regulations aimed at specifically reducing rollovers and the injuries that result. While reinforced roofing in SUVs can significantly reduce fatalities, the majority of manufacturers fail to provide it.
